Reel Insight #1: Liam Neeson

It's finally here!

Well, delightful readers, after planning all week, recording it yesterday, spending all afternoon editing it, and dealing with Podomatic's glitches all evening, the first episode of Reel Insight is finally ready to be heard by the world!

Jess and I start off with an introduction of why we started blogging, then do some plugs for our own sites, chat about what movies and television shows we've watched in the past week, discuss the film career of Liam Neeson, give a Top 3 and Bottom 3 of his films, and end with two movie quotes we want you, the listeners, to name the corresponding films.

There were several technical issues this first time out, but hopefully we've learned from them. Sorry about the audio change halfway through: I had to change computers due to Skype "call quality" issues, and forgot to change the settings on the call recorder on my desktop from stereo to mono. So that's why there's a shift. Live and learn! Also, sorry for monopolizing the conversation. Must be part of my chronic Only Child Syndrome. I will work on not doing that, as well as not saying "but um" so freaking much. I can't tell you how many of those I had to edit out of the final audio.

So give it a listen and we'll be back next week with a brand new episode. If you want to tell us what you like, or don't like (as if!) or want to participate in the movie quotes game (you really want to), email us at reelinsight[at]gmail[dot]com. You might just get a shout out next week!

We will work diligently this week on getting this puppy on iTunes and starting a Facebook fan page.

The music is courtesy of Kevin MacLeod at Incompetech, royalty free baby!

EDIT: I forgot to mention to stick around after the closing music ends for a nice blooper on my part.

This is my introduction to Jess and her blog, glad to have found it although she musn't have seen 13 Conversations about One Thing if she thinks A Time to Kill is Matthew too lazy to look up how to spell he last night right's best movie, which I really hate because I find it shallow, ignorant and racist all in the name of entertainment. Josh Grisham's popularity, from both books and adaptations, is inexplicable to me.

Awesome podcast! Glad to see you finally started one of your own :)

That was great! :P

Loved the little blooper there at the end.

Also, a bit of an editing tip. If you're using Audacity to edit, you can fade in and out your music, which is especially helpful there at the beginning, so it doesn't sound like it just cuts off.

Wow! I even liked it too, and I hate listening to my own voice! Thanks Mike - pleased to make your acquaintance. I can't wait for the next one.

Nick-I did fade the music some, but I guess it wasn't enough. I'll work on it.

Mom-I do too!

Mike-I'm going to have to disagree with you about A Time to Kill being shallow, ignorant and racist, but it's probably a regional difference.

Castor-Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

Travis-Thanks! After awhile, we'll probably start bringing on guests too.

Jess-Sadly, I still haven't listened to the entire thing in one sitting. During editing, I listened to several parts repeatedly to seam the recordings together, but never went from start to finish. Guess I need to do that.

Finally had the chance to listen. Pretty good for your first installment. I think the "other one" you caught up on last summer was Mad Men wasn't it? I saw both Rob Roy and Michael Collins and Liam was very good in both. In Rob Roy, Tim Roth was a pig in a wig. Michael Collins was quite harsh, but worth seeing. But Love Actually is my favorite as well!

Thanks Mom. I think it was decent for our first time and the number of Skype issues we had.
