Friday's New Feature Films: 1/13/12

Contraband
Remember that movie where Giovanni Ribisi was the brother who messed up and Nic Cage had to steal a bunch of cars to save his ass from the first rebooted Dr. Who? A bit ironic Ribisi's the baddie in what looks to be a less fun version of the same story.

Joyful Noise
The kind of shallow feel good fluff that makes me sick. They will either a.) win this big competition or b.) lose but be "joyful" they took a chance and learned so much about themselves along the way. Yeah, I've seen that on Glee the past two seasons and I'm already bored with it.

If someone did a mash-up of these movies...now that, now that is some thing I would...nah, I still wouldn't see it. Ah, the doldrums of January new releases--now there's a reliable disappointment.

Hahaha! You should have put a spoiler alert on that Joyful Noise preview. Now I'll be watching the whole movie trying to guess which ending they will go for. (As if Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah and the word "Joyful" right in the title wasn't enough to tip us off!)

Dave-The only good thing about all the January releases are the relief I get from not needing to see them so I can catch up on the Oscar Bait films.

NTEMP-They will most likely win. I doubt there was enough creative force in the screenplay to suggest otherwise! Afterall, the target audience (no idea who that would include) wouldn't understand if they lost.

Neither are quite worth seeing, unfortunately.

Noise works for those who enjoys musicals.

Contraband is affable for those who enjoy unintelligent, lowbrow action filmmaking.

Sam - I enjoy the occasional, well-done musical, but I couldn't even get through Noise's trailer. And your description of Contraband is what I'd expect out of a January released crime/action flick. Thanks for seeeing this shite so the rest of us have fair warning :)
